We are into day 4 of our hospital stay and Rowan is having his ups and down. He did well yesterday, getting up out of bed and taking a few steps to a wheelchair, then going for a ride around the hospital in the morning and to craft night. However, once we were back in the room and he settled in for sleeping he threw up his pain meds. This morning he threw up again right when he woke, then threw up the medicine they gave him to keep him from throwing up. Super fun morning. His IV was no longer good so it was removed and they are going to see if they can get him to handle the oral meds and not have to put another IV in. Finally he had a popsicle which stayed down, so he got a pain pill crushed up in some pudding and a liquid dose of another. So far he has kept those down now and is napping.

A little while ago I was sitting on the chair leaning my head on his bead rail and he put his bucket in front of my face and said "you want to throw up Mommy?"  I said "no thanks buddy".  He said "No thanks? Okay." and put the bucket down. So considerate even though he feels so sick.

I guess what he is going through is pretty normal for kids who have this surgery, we just need to give him his time to recover. The nurse said that a physical therapist may come up today to see about getting him comfortable walking on is own.

To be discharged he needs to be keeping down all his meds, pooping, and walking, none of which he is doing right now so we aren't sure when we'll go home.

Jeff is working during the day and coming by in the evening with Ian. My mom is at the house dog sitting and filling our fridge and freezer. Aunt Jill and Uncle Brian came by last night, and we knew Rowan wasn't quite himself when he said "no thank you" to opening a present they brought. After some convincing however he was happy to find a huge Elmo and an elmo that blew him kisses. He found it very funny and it was good to see him laughing. He is keeping the balloon from Ian close at hand. Linda, his daycare provider, and Steve came by with a gift from all of his friends at daycare. A Phinneous and Ferb best boom box ever with sound effects, and books and recordings to play in it. Rowan has also enjoyed opening some of the mail that has come to him.

Right now, though, he is pretty happy to just watch Blues Clues and Dora, and to sleep. Thanks for all the support and well wishes!
