Fourth of July in Walker

We spent the 4th of July, and the week leading up to it, in Walker. Walker has a traditional 4th celebration, and we did it all. The beginning of the week was spent visiting with relatives and enjoying the lake. Ian spent two days fishing with Grandpa. They had a lot of luck with walleye and perch. I have to scan those pictures in, so I'll put them in another post. Once they cleaned the fish Ian took them up to Gramma Jo's so the residents could have a fish fry. Gramma Jo's is the assisted living facilicy owned by our aunt and uncle, where Ian spends much time volunteering. We also spent time doing some of Ian's favorite things in Walker...walking to city dock, playing at the park, and going to the candy shop.

On one of our visits to Gramma Jo's, our Unlce Mike stopped by with Ruby. Mike thought it was hilarious to make Ruby sit in Rowans chair.

We managed to find our cousin Kelly on her day off and have a visit. Ian also had a good time playing and cuddling with Ruby.

Ian loves taking pictures, so we tried having him take some of Rowan and mommy. Unfortunatley it was REALLY windy that day. Shortly after he snapped this picture, Rowan's hat flew off and into the lake. It lodged on some rocks, and Ian was able to dig it out. Ian had been out on the lake with Grandpa in this wind and LOVED the waves in the boat.

Rowan gives the USA bear a big hug and Poses for a patriotic picture.

On the 4th we went to the parade, then
headed to the city park for the activities there. Ian loved this thing...putting on a velcro outfit and launching your body onto the sticky part.
The line was lonnnnng for this!

Jeff and I decided to try something that did NOT involve a velcro suit,
so we did the egg relay. We didn't win.

After the park and some swimming we went out on the lake for the fireworks. This is the best view in my
opinion. Grandpa had to talk with the game warden, and he gave Ian and Andy each a certificate, with a free DQ coupon, for having their lifejackets on. Rowan did not come on the lake with us, he stayed home with Grandma.

This is Walker Bay (on Leech Lake) at sunset. I
took this from the boat as we waited for fireworks to start. The amount of boats you see is a small fraction of the number that turned up on the bay to watch the fireworks. Impossible to count, but I'd say at least 400.

It was a fun holiday week.
