Today I decided to go into my classroom for a little while to see what is in store for me when I go back in the fall. Usually I would not be giving this a thought in July. However, I have been out of there since Rowan was born in February, so I've been feeling a bit anxious. Two nights in a row I've had a dream that something is wrong when I go back to work.
The first night I had a dream that my school was moved into the Chase on the Lake in Walker. But not the new Chase, the old Chase. (For those of you not familiar with Walker my mom worked there when I was little and I spent lots of time there. Having a dream about this place is not uncommon for me.) Anyway, in my dream the office in the chase was the office for my school, I didn't know how to run the fax machine, My friend Melanie was telling me I had to choose between a teacher manual and pencils for this school year due to budget cuts, and my phone calls were going to have to go through that ancient switchboard thing the Chase used to have.
Last night my dream was that I showed up back at work and when I got to my classroom someone else had taken it over, there were no windows, they had put down green plush carpet and there were Care Bears thumbtacked all over the walls.
So this morning I loaded Ian and Rowan in the car and went to school for awhile. My wonderful custodians blocked my room from summer school use and did the summer cleaning in there early so I could get in there this summer. I was happy to see that everything is in order. It looks the same as it always does in the summer, bare, with lots to do before school starts. I got a bit done today but am happy knowing exactly what to expect.
My classroom, lots to do when I go back to work!
Storm
On the way home we ran into a really bad storm. I was driving along, and all of the sudden the sirens were blaring. I pulled off and we went into a Burger King to have lunch and wait it out. I don't even like Burger King, but it was the closest place. While we were in there one of the worst storms I've ever seen came through. We were sitting at a booth by a bunch of windows and I picked up Rowan and made Ian follow me to a different spot in the restaurant. It got dark out and the sky turned the creepiest shade of green. Rain, then hail were pouring down. It was so windy I thought one of the trees outside would surely come down. Then the power went. It was freaky. So we waited and waited until it was only raining and went home. In our neighborhood the storm had passed, we saw debris and a mailbox in the road, and all of the garbage cans on our street were knocked over. Ian had to go get our recycle bin out of the next door neighbors' yard, and our welcome sign had blown off our door.
Fencing
Later the weather cleared, so we headed out to fencing. Ian has been taking fencing each day this week and loves it. Here are some pictures. Ian is the one with the white mask, blue wind pants with the grey stripe down the side and black shoes.

Ummmm. You are stressing me out about the classroom. I saw photo and shuddered. We were hit by that massive storm too, we lost some big branches and both hit Todd's new fence and loosened up the new posts....Oh and we lost power and 4am. I hate storms.
PLEASE women!!!!! I have half of my materials over at OGM BECAUSE they wouldn't let me teach summer school in my room (whhile someone else is using my room). At least all of your materials are packed away where you put them AND you have a nice clean room. Talk about stress.
